EXCHANGE OR SELL

Join our circular economy

Since becoming parents, we've constantly found ourselves with a stash of barely-worn, outgrown items we'd love to sell but never seem to find the time. Knowing how precious time is, we wanted to create an easy system and space where parents can quickly recoup some value from those pre-loved items.

BEFORE YOU BOOK TO EXCHANGE WITH US PLEASE READ

All exchange appointments are held in our shop at 113 Smith Street, Summer Hill.

We conduct clothing assessments in-store only, so we can thoroughly inspect each item’s condition. During your appointment, we’ll review the items you bring and let you know which ones we’d like to purchase. We offer either 40% of the resale value in credit or 25% in cash. For example, if your items have a resale value of $100, you’ll receive $40 in store credit or $25 in cash.

You’re welcome to accept or decline our offer. You may take back any items we don’t accept or, if you prefer, we can donate them to The Dandelion Support Network on your behalf.

Exchange FAQs

How does the clothing exchange work?

We are dedicated to curating high-quality, durable clothing for children! We accept kids' clothing from newborn to size 8, as well as shoes, bags, hats, and swimwear (during warmer months). From August to January, we focus on Spring and Summer items.

From February through to June we buy for Autumn and Winter

How do I get involved?

Sellers:

  1. Make an appointment here.
  2. Bring in the clothes your child no longer wears that meet our criteria (see below).
  3. Our team will review the items in-store, creating a "yes" and a "no" pile.
  4. The "yes" pile will be purchased from you and sold in our store!

Buyers:
Browse online or visit us in-store to find our specially curated pre-loved clothing for kids. Please note that items online cannot be purchased in-store and vice versa.

Do you have seasonal buying preferences?

We do! From August through to January we buy for Spring and Summer then from February through to June we buy for Autumn and Winter.

What are you looking for when you choose clothes for the shop? What is your selection criteria for buying clothes?

We’re looking for pre-loved items in good condition. We do not accept items that are stained, threadbare, or overly worn. We love brands like Minti, Rock Your Kid, Munster, Mini Rodini, Goldie & Ace, Osh Kosh, By Billie, Ralph Lauren, Vintage, Handmade pieces, Bobo Choses, Summer and Storm, Fred Bare, Gorman Playground, and Dangerkids. We primarily seek quality kids' clothing and items that have plenty of life left in them, suitable for hygienic wear.

We buy for Spring and Summer from August to January, and for Autumn and Winter from February to June.

What condition should the clothes be in?

Item Requirements:

  • Must be freshly washed
  • Very good used condition with plenty of life left
  • Odor-free
  • Limit of 30 items or less per exchange
  • Please bring items in bags
  • Accepted sizes: Newborn to kids size 12
  • Swimwear, sleepwear, and shoes must be in excellent condition
  • We also accept sleep bags and accessories like hats and sunglasses

Brands Not Accepted:
We do not accept items from the following brands: Anko, Dymples, Baby Berry, Shein, Ali Express, and Pat Pat.

Additional Guidelines:

  • No damaged, stained, ripped, pilling, missing buttons, or broken zips
  • Items should not be brought in tubs, boxes, or on hangers
  • Certain newborn items may also be excluded.
Why don’t you accept Shein, Anko etc.?

Unfortunately these labels lack quality and tend not to last as long as we'd like them to. We believe in the sustainable practice of buying quality items designed to last.

How do I book an appointment to bring clothing in for exchange?

Use our online booking system to select a convenient appointment time.

When you arrive, we’ll review the clothing items you’d like to sell. Please understand that we cannot accept all items, as we maintain high standards for clothing condition.

Why don’t you accept certain newborn items?

Newborn items are often challenging to sell in pre-loved condition for various reasons. Many mothers receive an abundance of new items after their child is born, making it more difficult for us to sell pre-owned items.

What happens during the in-store appointment?

We will evaluate the items you’ve brought based on trends, seasonal demand, our inventory, and their condition. If they meet our criteria, we’ll make you an offer for store credit or payment.

Do you buy clothing on the spot?

We offer a same-day service. If your items meet our selection criteria, we will offer you payment or store credit. It is up to you to choose the best payment method in exchange for the goods.

Can I have items valued online?

Unfortunately no, not at this stage.

What happens to the clothing you don't accept?

You are welcome to take home any of your items that we don’t select to pass onto family and friends.

Alternatively, you can choose  to donate your clothing to The Dandelion Network, our chosen charity.

Lisa, our local Dandelion volunteer, comes to the store once a week to pick up clothing we don't accept. We will confirm which option you prefer when finalising your transaction.

How do you determine the value of my items?

Our pricing strategy is based on careful research and data, aiming to offer pre-loved goods at competitive prices that consider quality, market value, and demand.

The purchase offer we provide is non-negotiable, but you are not obligated to accept it. Accepted items will receive 40% of the total resale value in store credit or 25% in cash. For example, if the resale value is $100, we’ll offer you $40 in store credit or $25 in cash. Higher percentages may be offered for highly sought-after, rare vintage, and in-demand items.example, if the total resale value of the items is $100 we will offer you $40 store credit or $25 cash.

Higher percentages are sometimes offered for highly sought after, rare vintage and in-demand pieces.

What if I change my mind about selling?

You are not obligated to accept our offer. If you choose to accept it in exchange for cash or store credit, that transaction is final. At that point, the items become part of the To The Moon Kids collection and are our property. The only way to reclaim them is by purchasing them back in-store.

How do I get paid?

Bank transfer is our preferred payment method, as we minimise cash on the premises. All transfers will be processed within 48 hours of the transaction. Once you select your payment method, the transaction is final. Please feel free to ask our staff any questions about the process before finalising your transaction.

How does store credit work?

Store credit is valid for 3 years and will be linked to your customer profile. To redeem store credit, simply show a valid ID during your purchase.

If you cancel or return an order made with store credit, that amount will be restored to your account, not refunded as cash. Store credit cannot be exchanged for cash under any circumstances and may be canceled or amended as needed. We are not responsible for lost or stolen store credit.

Can I split the payment you’re providing to me between cash and store credit?

No, we do not offer split payments between cash and store credit. We can however, offer a split between in-store credit and an online voucher.

Do you offer consignment sales?

No, we do not offer consignment; we only purchase clothing outright. This approach is the most time-efficient way to manage our circular economy business model, especially considering the busy parents we serve.

Can I use my store credit to purchase online?

Yes, we have recently changed our policy to allow for store credit to be converted to online vouchers.

Please fill out this form if you wish to convert your existing store credit.

How long does the exchange appointment take? When can I come and collect my items?

Our exchange appointments are a same-day service.

Items will be valued within an hour of drop-off, and we will text you when they're ready for collection or payment. Please note that any uncollected items will be donated to our charity partner after 7 days if you do not return.
